OPP seeking witnesses to Leamington assault

Provincial police are asking the public for help as they sort out an assault that took place last weekend.

The OPP said it happened shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday, September 21 on Mersea Road 5 west of Bruner Road in Leamington. Officers were told that people were driving several all-terrain vehicles (ATV) in a farm field, causing potential damage to crops. Before contacting police, the complainant had approached the ATV users and asked them to stop driving their vehicles on the property.

Constable Jim Root said one person was assaulted badly enough to require hospitalization, and a motor vehicle was damaged before the suspects left the area. Police did not say who was assaulted or how serious the injuries were.

Police believe that shortly after the assault, one of the involved ATVs may have collided with another vehicle on Mersea Road 5 closer to Bruner Road.

Anyone with information on this incident, or who can identify the suspects, is asked to call the OPP Leamington detachment at (519) 326-2544, or Crime Stoppers at (519) 222-TIPS (8477).
