Windsor approves more traffic cameras

Windsor City Council has signed off on $450,000 in its capital budget to install more cameras across the city.

Mayor Drew Dilkens said there are already a lot of cameras across the city, but the technology has since improved.

"We already have a number of cameras in the city. Some are analog. We want to upgrade some of those analog cameras to digital, but we also want to install new cameras," said Dilkens.

The new cameras will first go in downtown, where business owners have complained about rampant drug abuse and crime.

"Police will be sitting down with traffic engineering to figure out where the best locations are, and we'll be moving forward and do those installations," Dilkens said.

The cameras are connected to both Windsor Police dispatch and the city's traffic control department.
