Spitfires beat Peterborough 9-6

The Windsor Spitfires defeated the Peterborough Petes 9-6 in their home-opener on Saturday.

Mason McTavish kicked off the game for the Petes with a power play goal, scoring his first career OHL 11:23 into the first period.

Another powerplay goal for the Petes came from Nick Robertson just 0:36 into the second period. Cameron Butler and Liam Kirk scored just minutes apart putting the Petes in the lead by four. The Spitfires came back with a vengeance scoring four consecutive goals. The first goal was by Wyatt Johnston with Curtis Douglas following with one of his own just one minute after. The next two goals were from Daniel D'Amico at 11:38 and Tyler Angle at 12:13 putting the game at a 4-4 tie. Tucker Robertson broke the tie for Peterborough with a goal at 15:53 ending the second period at 5-4.

Windsor's Angle and Douglas scored back-to-back goals in the beginning of the third period. Mason McTavish scored at 9:15 for the Petes tying up the game yet again, but was quickly countered by two back-to-back goals from Jean-Luc Foudy and a goal from Luke Boka.

Windsor goaltender made Kari Piiroinen saved  19 out of 25 shots on net.

The Spitfires will face off the Erie Otters at the WFCU Centre on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
