Accessibility Awareness Walk celebrates abilities

The second annual Accessibility Awareness Walk will celebrate all abilities Saturday and support the disabled community.

The walk is hosted at the Vollmer Recreation Complex by the Essex County Accessibility Advisory Committee.

Participants are asked to arrive at the Vollmer Pavilion at 11 a.m., and the event will wrap up at 1 p.m.

"We all have unique abilities, and this walk is an opportunity for us to come together and celebrate that individuality while advocating for improved accessibility for everyone," said Committee Chair Christine Easterbrook.

"We have made tremendous progress when it comes to removing barriers in this community, but there is still much more work to do," she continued.

The committee shares ideas and makes recommendations about access to public spaces, design guidelines, and policy.

Last year's walk attracted dozens of participants and organizers are hoping for an even better turnout this year.
