Police explain 'standoff' on Mercer Street

The Windsor Police Service has released more information about an investigation on Mercer Street near Elliott Street Wednesday.

It was part of a Drugs and Guns Unit investigation, which led officers to a suspect on Tuscarora Street between Windsor Avenue and McDougall Avenue. The 41-year-old man was arrested around 11:15 a.m. without incident.

He faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, fentanyl and methamphetamine.

The investigation then moved to a house on Mercer Street.

Police said five people left the house under police direction, and without charges.

However, officers were not sure if anyone was still inside in the house, or if there were weapons inside. So, they closed down surrounding streets as a precaution.

Just after 3:30 p.m., members of the Emergency Services Unit and the K-9 unit entered the residence.

They did not find anybody, or any weapons, and reopened the roads soon after.
