Windsor police involved in a standoff near downtown

Windsor police had a lengthy standoff on Wednesday at a home too well known to them.

The heavy police presence started at around noon and the home at Elliott Street and Mercer Street near downtown Windsor was still surrounded late into the afternoon. Several Emergency Services Unit officers had their guns drawn at the scene of the same home where shots were fired in early July.

Police are not saying much, only that it was an active investigation and there was no direct threat to the public.

The area was closed to traffic and the public until about 4 p.m.

Neighbours told Blackburn News Windsor that police activity is a regular occurrence at the corner of Elliott and Mercer.

Windsor police said more information is expected to be released on Thursday.
