More hateful vandalism under investigation

The Ontario Provincial Police in Tecumseh is investigating a vandalism complaint that is being classified as a hate crime.

Police said sometime between August 22 and 29, 2019, someone painted a symbol on a detached garage on Bedell Street near Lanoue Street. The OPP is not disclosing what the symbol was yet because it may interfere with the investigation. More details could be released on Wednesday.

It is the third incident of vandalism being investigated as a hate crime in the Windsor-Tecumseh area in less than two weeks. The first happened at Parent Avenue and Assumption Street in Windsor on August 26 or 27. Police said a white Cadillac SUV had extensive damage, including a large dent to the driver’s door, door handles glued shut, scratches down the side of the vehicle, two flat tires, and black spray paint along the vehicle with wording and symbols that caused the case to be classified as a hate crime.

The second incident of vandalism took place on the Little River Trail prior to Monday morning when a man found swastikas and hateful language during his walk.

Call the OPP Major Crime Unit at 519 -723-2491 if you have any information regarding this incident.
