Riders to fundraise for Downtown Mission Sunday

Motorcycle riders will take to the roads for a good cause Sunday morning.

The Downtown Mission will hold its eleventh annual "On A Mission for the Mission" motorcycle ride, during which 200 motorcycle enthusiasts will take a tour through Windsor-Essex, raising money to purchase food for the Mission's meal programs.

The ride will be led by the Sober Sons Motorcycle Club, according to a release from the Mission. The ride began in 2009 when two friends, Frenchie Aligard and George Winney, decided to put on a fundraiser to help Windsor-Essex's increasing population of people struggling with poverty. The Sober Sons have since accepted the leadership of the ride.

Winney passed away last year and Aligard will ride in his memory. All participants will receive a memorial wristband paying tribute to Winney.

The ride begins outside the Downtown Mission on Victoria Avenue at 9 a.m. with registration and a pre-ride breakfast for participants. Kickstands are set to go up at 11 a.m.
