Young cancer patient passes away

A young Windsor boy has lost his fight with cancer after a courageous battle.

Huntre Allard, 9,  had been battling a rare, incurable brain cancer known as grade-four glioblastoma for over a year. According to a family member, he passed away around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Messages of condolences started to pour in Saturday morning with many people remembering Huntre as a strong child who made an impact on everyone who met him.

"Years of suffering are now over little cuz and you may now rest in peace. You fought real hard to stay here with us for as long as you could," read a post by Huntre's cousin, Samuel Allard.

Huntre's story has touched people across the Windsor- Essex community who have come together to offer support to Huntre and his family. In February, a large crowd gathered at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Elementary School to welcome him as he returned back to school for the first time in over a year. Then in March, a large fundraiser was held to help with treatment expenses.

On August 15, The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board confirmed via Twitter that Huntre was transferred to hospice care after his condition worsened.
