Trucks banned from municipal roads in Lakeshore

Lakeshore is cracking down on trucks using municipal roads to avoid bridge construction at County Road 42 and the Puce River.

County Road 42 is closed for the bridge project over the Puce River and town officials said trucks have been using local roads to detour, rather than posted detour routes and Highway 401.

Town officials said local roads can't take the heavy load of regular truck traffic.

Lakeshore is working to post signs advising drivers of detour routes and to restrict truck traffic on local roads between Manning Road and West Puce Road and County Road 22 to County Road 34.

The town said the Ministry of Transportation and the Ontario Provincial Police will be keeping a close eye on trucks using local roads as detours and will have zero tolerance for any not following the signs.

“We want to protect Lakeshore’s assets," said Manager of Public Works Albert Dionne. "Use the County of Essex posted detours or Highway 401, otherwise you will be ticketed.”

The $816,000 project includes replacing precast girders, the deck and barrier protection, and repairs to the walls and bearing seats.
