UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm warning ends for the Windsor area

A severe thunderstorm warning has ended in Windsor-Essex.

Environment Canada tracked a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts up to toonie-size hail and heavy rain. The radar estimated that 25 to 30 mm had already fallen in some areas and forecasters added that total amounts of up to 50 mm were expected in isolated areas.

Forecasters said this severe thunderstorm impacted Amherstburg, Leamington and Cottam.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing large hail, damaging winds, or torrential rainfall.

A special weather statement was issued for Windsor-Essex earlier Thursday afternoon, but both the statement and the warning expired around 3:15 p.m.
