Tense times in Belle River after gun call

The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a gun call in Belle River.

Police said a man surrendered about an hour after an incident involving a firearm in the area of St. Charles Street and St. John Street in Belle River on Tuesday at approximately 7:30 a.m.

"OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and uniformed patrol officers closed off the area for approximately one hour until a man inside a residence surrendered without incident and was taken into custody," said the OPP in a news release.

The area has been cleared. Police added, "there were no public safety concerns."

The investigation continues and police said more information will be released as it becomes available.
