"Last Call", shot in Windsor, premieres at home for the first time

A powerful film, shot in Windsor last year and played before sold-out screenings in Los Angeles, is finally coming home.

"Last Call" is a real-time split-screen feature film produced by Windsor-based filmmaker Gavin Michael Booth and Daved Wilkens of The Mindy Project. It follows a suicidal alcoholic on the anniversary of his son's death and a night janitor at a local community college.

Sarah Booth of Law & Order SVU stars in the lead female role. Wilkens offers up his talents in the leading male role. Several students and graduates from the University of Windsor and St. Clair College also helped with the production.

The film was shot in several locations in Windsor including St. Clair College Mediaplex, Vermouth Bar, and Victoria Park Place apartments.

In addition to sold-out screenings, it has collected more than 20 awards since its premiere in March. It has picked up trophies for best feature, best director, best actor, best actress, best cinematography, best screenplay, and best musical score.

It will be screened in seven U.S. cities a week before it's Windsor premiere on September 21 at the Chrysler Theatre.

Proceeds from the local screening will benefit the Canadian Mental Health Association Windsor-Essex.

"Every one of us is affected by mental illness at some point in our lives. Unfortunately, suicide is also something that an alarming number of families experience," said Kim Willis, communications and mental health promotions director of the local CMHA branch. "We appreciate the opportunity to partner on events such as this to bring much-needed awareness to the topics of mental health and suicide."

"Windsor has always given me so much in order for me to grow my film career. Last Call would not be possible to make anywhere else," said Booth. "Bringing Last Call home, I hope we can make a real impact for mental health treatment."

Booth is also known for his films The Scarehouse and Blumhouse's Fifteen.
