Windsor fire officials had a busy start to the weekend after two fires broke out in the city hours apart.
First, around 11:50 p.m., Windsor Fire reported a blaze on the 6th floor of the Le Goyeau Apartment building at Riverside Drive and Goyeau Street. Multiple units responded to the fire and several residents were asked to leave their apartments as the fire attack was underway. The flames were under control by 12:30 a.m.
A few hours later around 3:45 a.m., a fire was reported at a duplex on Mercer Street near Tuscarora Street. It was under control by 4:15 a.m.
Windsor Fire and Rescue confirmed on their Twitter that the duplex fire on Mercer Street is being treated as suspicious pending further investigation. The blaze started in an enclosed back porch of one of the units and damage is estimated at around $175,000. As a result of the fire, one person suffered 2nd-degree burns to 10 per cent of his body.
Windsor Police confirmed with Blackburn News that they have a suspect in custody who has been charged with arson in relation to the fire on Mercer Street.

Meanwhile, fire officials confirm that the fire at the Le Goyeau Apartments started on a 6th-floor balcony. No cause has been provided yet however it is not believed to be suspicious in nature. Damage is estimated around $30,000 with one tenant displaced and no injuries reported.
