Popular car invitational adds public show to CornFest

Local gearheads will have another opportunity to show off their wheels later this summer.

The Tecumseh Corn Festival is this year adding a public car show to its Cream of the Crop Invitational. The Town of Tecumseh announced this week that it is once again pairing up with Muscle Cars and Classics. The town will not only allow 50 invited car collectors to display their vehicles, but also let the general public to be a part of the event as well.

This is the second year the Corn Fest will feature the Cream of the Crop Invitational. Dave Laitinen of Muscle Cars and Classics said the accompanying public show is the result of high popular demand.

"The community said 'We want to be a part of this,'" said Laitinen. "Fifty cars, that's not enough. You go out in the county on a Sunday afternoon, and every other garage door has got a nice show car. So, we realized that the demand was there and they said 'Hey, we want to be a part of this,' so we've expanded it."

The 50 vehicles for the Cream of the Crop Invitational were chosen from those displayed at classic car shows and gatherings all across Windsor-Essex, said Laitinen.

Windsor TV anchorman Jim Crichton is scheduled to be master of ceremonies for the expanded show. It will run at CornFest on its final day, Sunday, August 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Also scheduled to appear is Tom Smith, a co-host of the Discovery Channel show Misfit Garage.

The Tecumseh Corn Festival runs from August 23 to August 25 at Lacasse Park. For the complete schedule and other information, visit their official website.
