Heat warning issued

Another heat warning has been issued for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.

Environment Canada said hot and humid conditions are expected this weekend into early next week.

"A hot and humid air mass will make its way into the area for the weekend into Monday," the agency said in a statement issued Friday afternoon.

Daytime maximum temperatures of 31 C are expected along with overnight low temperatures of 21 C, providing little relief from the heat. Weather officials said there may be some relief from the heat on Sunday as showers or thunderstorms are possible. A slightly cooler air mass is expected to arrive on Tuesday.

Environment Canada said extreme heat affects everyone.

"Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place," officials said. "Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle."

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperatures or humidity are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

The Minister of Labour is also warning workers about working in high heat. Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton is cautioning workers and employers in the region to take extra precautions in the hot weather. The caution comes as temperatures in the region are expected to soar over the next few days with a Humidex in the mid to high 30s.

On July 20, Windsor broke a daily heat record set in 1977. The high reached 35.3 C last Saturday edging the previous mark of 35.2 C. The record high for July 27 is 38.3 C set in 1941.
