Windsor's mayor is on the case to catch a thief after his own vehicle was broken into.
Mayor Drew Dilkens tweeted out surveillance video from his home on Wednesday afternoon after a man broke into his white SUV sitting in his south Windsor double driveway just after 3 a.m. on Wednesday.
Dilkens, who is also the chair of the Windsor Police Services Board and is a former Windsor police auxiliary member, is encouraging the public to help catch the thief.
"Let's see if we can catch this thief who went through South Windsor last night stealing from cars," Dilkens posted on his Facebook page. "Anyone recognize this guy?"
The mayor admitted he left his vehicle unlocked but still wants the man brought to justice.
"Rule of thumb - lock your car door at night. Sometimes we forget. Then a thief stops by at 3 a.m," he said.
The man, who looks to be in his 30s, rummaged through the mayor's SUV and ran away with what's appears to be a large white ALDO bag with something in it.
The suspect has short dark hair, facial hair, is of medium height, and was wearing a light coloured t-shirt with a small Nike swish crest on the chest, dark shorts and dark running shoes with white soles.
