UPDATE: Burn ban lifted in Amherstburg

Residents in Amherstburg can resume open burning, at least for the time being.

The Amherstburg Fire Department had issued the burn ban on Monday for the municipality due to dry conditions, according to a tweet this week. The fire service lifted the ban on Wednesday morning.

With rain falling in the area Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, conditions have improved.

The ban only covered open burning and not fires in contained areas, such as barbecue grills. However, heat warning remains in effect for Windsor-Essex.

Those with outstanding permits are being asked by the fire service to check with the burn line before setting fire to anything. The number is (519) 730-2114.

Amherstburg was second local community that has had an outdoor burning ban in place. Tecumseh has had a burn ban since the beginning of the month.
