Overland flooding recedes in Lakeshore

Record high water levels have receded in Lakeshore and the town is holding in a state of "Enhanced Activation", which is one step below a state of emergency.

The Public Works Department said water levels have recently dropped by about two inches but officials are still asking boaters to be mindful of wakes.

Berms have been created at isolated locations on Albert Lane, Surf Club Drive, Lakeshore Park, Mariners Drive and Melody Drive but there are no road closures due to overland flooding from Lake St. Clair.

Lakeshore received 10,000 sandbags on Monday and officials said another 10,000 are on order. They are available at the Atlas Tube Centre and at Lion’s Park in Lighthouse Cove with proof of waterfront property. There is a limit of 100 sandbags and they are only to be used to protect property.

Sand is available at Lighthouse Cove Lion's Park on Melody Drive, Gracey Sideroad at Lakeshore Road 301, the former Belle River Arena at 304 Rourke Line, the Town of Lakeshore West Public Works Shop on Puce Road, the Town of Lakeshore’s East Public Works Shop on County Road 31, and the Golfview Drive Lakefront Parkette.

Via Rail has cleared any debris build up in front of their culvert on the north side of the tracks on Valentino Drive, and has pumped out any standing water.

Lakeshore also said local pumps are working normally.
