Parade to highlight Sunsplash weekend in Belle River

A celebration of cars and summer is well underway in Lakeshore.

The annual Belle River Sunsplash is on at Lakeview Park in Belle River through Sunday, with the traditional classic car show and parade among the highlights, plus the SOLTRA lawnmower races and the Can-Am Watercross Nationals. Events will be concentrated at the park, Notre Dame Street, the Belle River West Beach, and Belle River High School.

On tap for each day is the Campbell Amusements midway, vendors, live music, and food. The classic car show begins after 1 p.m. each day on Notre Dame Street. The downtown thoroughfare will be closed to auto traffic at that time so visitors can enjoy the car show. There will also be a family-friendly activities tent. The Blackburn Windsor Summer Patrol will be on hand each day at Sunsplash.

The parade is the focal point of events for Saturday. The 23rd annual march begins at 10 a.m., starting and finishing at Belle River High School on St. Peter Street. It then proceeds east, turns left on Eleventh Street, then heads left down Notre Dame Street to Ouellette Street, left on St. Charles Street, right on Chisholm Street then back on St. Peter to the high school.

Other events for Saturday include the lawnmower races beginning at 5 p.m. at the high school, along with Sunsplash Idol at 6 p.m. at the Lakeview Amphitheatre.

Sunday morning kicks off with the fishing derby from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Registration is open from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. only. Also on for Sunday is a worship service at 11 a.m., and Can-Am Watercross Championship, and a family sandcastle building contest.
