New docks design unveiled for Lakeview Park Marina

New floating docks proposed for Lakeview Park Marina in Windsor are being received with great enthusiasm.

An open house was held at Lilly Kazzilly’s on Monday evening to show a drawing of the new $3 million floating dock system and to get feedback from residents and users.

The marina has been closed this season due to dangerously high water levels submerging the current wooden docks and hydro boxes.

Trese MacNeil, the coordinator of community sports services, said nothing much will change except the docks will rise and fall with future water levels and there will be more room for large boats.

"We used to have only 13 boats that could dock parallel to this federal wall but this proposed design gives us the opportunity to dock 35, 40 foot plus boats," MacNeil said.

MacNeil said the biggest challenge is to try and keep neighbours together.

"The general concern is they want to end up back in the same general neighbourhood where they have been. Many of our boaters have been here for 25 and 30 years and they like their neighbours. They want to remain next to these neighbours," she added.

MacNeil said the new 230 berth marina will have space for an extra 20 boats, if needed.

"Making sure the length of these walkways aren't going to impede traffic with the potential slips on the federal wall," said MacNeil.

Windsor City Council approved the funding for the floating docks last month and engineering work has been underway to come up with the most effective design for the future using input from the public and Lakeview Park Marina users.
