UPDATE: Front Road in LaSalle now open after flooding

The heavy rain downpour on Saturday had caused the town of LaSalle to close portions of Front Road, but the road is open now.

In a media release, the Town of LaSalle stated that flooding from the Detroit River forced the closure of Front Road between Martin Lane and Laurier Drive in both directions as well as the Southbound lanes on Front Road from Laurier Drive to Sacred Heart Drive on Sunday.

However, the town said Monday morning that the curb lanes of Front Road at Kenwood Drive are closed due to standing water.

The flooding has also forced the town to close the LaSalle Outdoor Pool, the boat ramp, Front Road Park and the Riverdance building until Wednesday. Swim lessons scheduled for Monday have been moved inside to the Vollmer Complex pool, and lessons for Tuesday have been cancelled.

The town is asking residents who may be leaving their homes through temporary evacuation call the 211 service beforehand, so the town is aware of any contact information. They should also contact their utility companies to temporarily shut off any hydro, water or gas service.

In Kingsville, Heritage Road has been closed between Sycamore Avenue and Centre Avenue because of water overflowing onto the street.

Point Pelee National Park's Marsh Boardwalk was closed because of unsafe conditions on Sunday.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has also issued a flood watch calling for strong winds which brings a higher risk of flooding to the Essex Region shoreline in addition to the long-term flood watch in effect until July 16th.
