WIFF celebrates record attendance with free movie night

Do you have plans on Tuesday night?

The Windsor International Film Festival is celebrating record attendance at this past fall's event by hosting a free screening of the documentary The Russian Five.

The film chronicles how the Detroit Red Wings boosted their game by recruiting players from the Soviet Union during the 1980s. It follows the story of five players that immigrated to the U.S. and struggled to fit in, all the while teaching the rest of the team how to play hockey Soviet-style.

The screening will be at the Riverfront Festival Plaza on Tuesday night. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.

If you go, bring your blankets and chairs, but coolers will not be permitted. You can register for the event via Eventbrite.

The Windsor International Film Festival was the biggest volunteer-run film festival in Canada last year. About 28,574 people enjoyed more than 140 films from 21 countries in November.
