Health Unit suspends operations of three foot care clinics

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has shut down three foot care clinics in the county after what it calls multiple breaches in infection control and prevention.

They are at the Essex Community Services at 35 Victoria Ave. in Essex, Harrow Arena Community Room at the Harrow Arena 243 McAfee St. in Harrow, and McGregor Community Centre at 9571 Walker Rd. in McGregor.

It said more clinics might be added to the list as the investigation continues.

It said it found breaches in infection prevention and control practices “related to reprocessing, cleaning, and handling of equipment, and inadequate knowledge of infection control best practices.”

The health unit said the risk of infection is very low, but clients who have received care through those clinics may want to call their doctor.

Risks range from localized skin irritation to more serious infection like hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV.

So far, no infection has been reported as a result of the breaches.
