Suspended driver faces multiple drug charges

A Windsor man faces several charges following a traffic stop over the weekend.

Windsor police say bicycle officers in its City Centre Patrol spotted a grey BMW at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday at Bruce Avenue and Park Avenue West. The car was driven by a man suspected of being a suspended driver. The officers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver. During the interaction, an open container of alcohol was spotted along with a quantity of suspected illicit drugs.

The vehicle was searched further, and the driver was taken into custody, said WPS public information officer Sergeant Steve Betteridge.

Officers seized 32 packages of suspected cannabis weighing about 1,700 grams with packaging, two half-empty bottles of alcohol, 25.8 grams of suspected cocaine with the bag, three bottles of suspected codeine, 110 suspected Ecstasy tablets, some cell phones, and Canadian cash.

A 20-year-old man was charged with driving while suspended, driving with an unsealed container of liquor, and numerous charges related to distributing and trafficking various drugs. These charges have yet to be proven in court.
