Large Windsor fire deemed suspicious

A fire at a tire shop in Windsor is now being called suspicious.

The blaze at Serbu Tire on Howard Avenue near Hanna Street erupted on Sunday at around 6:30 a.m. The fire burned for several hours and thick black smoke could be seen as far as the city’s east end. Windsor Fire and Rescue Services reported the fire under control at around 10:30 a.m.

Damage was pegged at $500,000. No injuries were reported.

"The Arson Unit attended the scene and through investigation believe the fire to be suspicious," Windsor police said in a news release Monday afternoon.

The roof and the front wall of the building collapsed but there was no damage to nearby structures.
