Windsor fire crews spent the morning battling a large blaze at Serbu Tire shop on Howard Avenue, near Hanna Street East.
The fire call came in around 6:15 a.m. Sunday morning. Thick black smoke could be seen as far as the city's east end. The fire was reported to be under control around 10:30 a.m. as crews continue to put out hot spots.
According to a post on Windsor Fire's Twitter page, the roof and front wall of the building have collapsed. No one was inside at the time of the blaze and the fire was able to be contained to the tire shop with no damage to nearby structures. Because of the nature of the fire, residents living near the area were instructed to close their windows and take shelter for several hours on Sunday morning.
Howard Avenue re-opened between Windsor Avenue and Shepherd Street around 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
According to Windsor Fire's Twitter, the estimated cost of structural damage is $400,000, while the content damage is estimated at $100,000.
The cause is still under investigation.
No injuries have been reported.
