Man tries to flee RIDE program, faces charges

A driver who tried to elude a RIDE program may be paying for it for a long time.

Windsor police say officers were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program shortly after midnight Saturday on Wyandotte Street East near St. Luke Road. A blue Honda motorcycle approached the RIDE program and was directed to stop. After a pause, the male rider tried to flee the area before officers could determine sobriety.

Constable Talya Natyshak said the rider lost control of his motorcycle and tried to run from the area, resulting in a foot pursuit. One officer tried to subdue the rider, who resisted and kept running toward Edna Street. The rider was eventually stopped after several officers assisted and a taser was used.

The investigation revealed a quantity of suspected methamphetamine and an unspecified amount of money, which were seized. Natyshak also said the driver was prohibited from operating a vehicle.

Jackie Burkoski, 47, of Windsor, is charged with resisting arrest, possession of suspected methamphetamine with the intent to sell, and five counts of prohibited driving.

These charges have not been proven in court.
