UPDATE: SIU investigate fatal shooting in Tecumseh

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of Ontario is releasing more information about a fatal shooting involving a police officer.

It happened Friday night around 10 p.m. in Tecumseh when Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance call at a home on Estate Park near Talthorpe Place, just west of Brighton Road.

According to a news release put out by the SIU, there was an interaction inside the residence between a man and the officers. One of the officers discharged his firearm and struck the man.

As a result of the incident, three OPP officers and the civilian were sent to the hospital with injuries. The civilian, a 48-year-old Tecumseh man, was pronounced dead. The officers sustained non-life threatening injuries and have since been released from the hospital. The man's autopsy is scheduled for Sunday in London.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the incident. At this time, one subject officer and five witness officers have been designated.

The SIU acts as an "arm’s length" agency that investigates any reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. The SIU is asking anyone with information about the situation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. They are also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload it through the SIU website.
