Next stage of Cabana Road upgrades set to start

Phase two of the Cabana Road corridor improvements is set to start next week.

The construction will begin the week of June 10 from west of Howard Avenue to east of Dougall Avenue and should be finished before the end of the year.

Project Engineer Jane He said the road will be widened to four lanes and bike lanes will be added. The work will also add new boulevards, new sidewalks, and new street lighting.

He said residents, business owners, and cyclists had some helpful advice and suggestions to be considered.

"How to mark the intersections to ensure the safe crossing for the cyclists," said He.

He said several detour issues were discussed and hazard concerns were addressed.

"We ask people to be patient and try to drive safely and cross at the detour zone," she added.

He said the road work will improve public safety for all.

"This corridor will be more friendly for the drivers and for the pedestrians and for the cyclists," He said.

A public information centre was held on Wednesday at Roseland Public School to discuss this part of the $46 million project.

SheaRock Construction Group Inc. will be doing the work.
