Theft leads to chase which leads to crash

A 30-year-old Windsor man faces charges after a theft led to a car chase, a crash, a discovery, and finally, an arrest.

It started around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday when a man told a roofer working at a home on Lublin Avenue someone had just stolen tools from his vehicle.

The suspect fled in a rented vehicle, but the roofer and a second witness called the police before taking off after him.

The suspect's vehicle stopped briefly at the corner of Lauzon Parkway and Lauzon Line, but then sped through the red light and collided with a grey minivan. That did not stop the suspect. He continued into a field, where he stopped, pulled a bike out of the vehicle and tried to cycle away. By that time, police were on the scene and arrested the suspect.

While searching the vehicle, they found many stolen items, including the roofer's tools, and methamphetamine. However, that's not all, the bike had also been reported stolen, as had the vehicle.

It was taken during a break and enter on Sunday at a business on Smith Industrial Drive in Amherstburg.

Now, Brett Deblock, 30, of Windsor is charged with theft under $5,000, five counts of possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, possession of a controlled substance, theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter, and breach of probation.

The occupants of the minivan were not injured in the crash.
