Colchester Harbour Marina gets prestigious ecological designation

Colchester Harbour Marina in the Town of Essex has been recognized for being clean, safe and sustainably managed.

It was among 40 beaches and marinas across Canada awarded a Blue Flag designation this year, the most ever in the program's 15-year history.

The Blue Flag is a highly prestigious international eco-certification program awarded each year, which sets the gold standard for water quality, environmental management, and education, safety, and amenities.

“When you see a Blue Flag flying at a beach or marina, you know that it’s clean, safe and sustainably managed,” said Kelsey Scarfone, water programs manager with Environmental Defence. “These world-class beaches and marinas have worked hard to achieve the standards set by this prestigious award, and we’re proud to recognize that accomplishment.”

The Blue Flag is administered in Canada by Environmental Defence and is managed internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education.

More than 4,000 beaches and marinas in 45 countries fly the Blue Flag.
