OPP urges caution after boat capsizes off Leamington

Ontario Provincial Police are urging boaters to be careful after a boat capsized in Leamington harbour.

The vessel, operated by a 26-year-old Leamington man, capsized around 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to OPP Constable Jim Root.

The man, who was not wearing a life jacket, was thrown from the boat into the cold Lake Erie water. He was able to get to shore on his own and suffered no physical injuries.

Leamington Fire Services and Essex-Windsor EMS assisted the OPP with the call.

It was not disclosed what kind of a vessel it was.

Root said unpredictable water conditions and the rapidly changing weather recently may make boating a challenge.

Boaters are urged to use life jackets and take all necessary safety precautions before heading out.
