It's a boy! Duke and Duchess of Sussex have first child

The British Royal Family just got a little bigger.

According to Buckingham Palace, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first child, a boy.

The BBC had reported earlier Monday that Meghan had gone into labour. The birth was confirmed by an Instagram post from Prince Harry's office. The official Twitter account of the Royal Family confirmed that the child arrived at 5:26 a.m. British Summer Time (12:26 a.m. Eastern Standard Time), and weighs seven pounds, three ounces.

"It's been the most amazing experience I could ever imagine," the prince said, before thanking well-wishers for their support.

The child is the seventh in the line of succession to the British throne and the eighth great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II.

The royal couple had kept many of the details surrounding Meghan's pregnancy private, such as the actual due date. The couple also did not want to know the baby's gender in advance.
