UPDATE: Sewage systems in Lakeshore operating normally

Sanitary systems have caught up in one local community following this week's rainstorms.

The town of Lakeshore announced Thursday afternoon that their sewage systems have returned to regular operation, and there is no longer a request in place for residents to limit their use of water.

Residents were asked to voluntarily limit their water use Wednesday to give the drainage systems a chance to catch up and reduce the risk of flooding. This water use included laundry, dishwashing, showers, baths, and other activities that used significant amounts of water. An area bounded by Lake St. Clair, Rourke Line, the CP Rail tracks and Wallace Line was affected.

The town is also reminding residents that any activity requiring the use of a lot of water should be restricted during and immediately after significant rainfall. Lakeshore also offers subsidies to assist with the cost of a backflow preventer, sump pump overflow or downspout disconnection. They can also use cameras to conduct free inspections of pipes around homes for signs of cracks or breakage.
