Snow, yes, the white stuff, possible overnight Saturday

Environment Canada confirms it. There's a good chance snow is on the way this weekend.

Meteorologist Gerald Cheng admitted to BlackburnNews.com snow is unusual at the end of April.

"However, it's not unheard of," he said. "It's just the way the weather patterns are shaping up right now. That is why we're getting a cooler air mass behind this system, and that is why we're getting snow."

Environment Canada says the region can expect snow or rain on Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

The good news is, Cheng said it would not likely stick around.

"It's very difficult to swallow because its the end of April. However, if you look at the temperature, the day-time highs for Sunday around the region, it's going to reach ten degrees, so a lot of it is going to melt during the day," said Cheng. "I don't think it's going to cause too many problems. Just be aware if you're heading out early on Sunday morning, it could be problematic."

Cheng also said residents in Southwestern Ontario should not complain too much. Other parts of the province and the country have it far worse.

The City of Ottawa has declared a state of emergency as waterways topped their banks and the forecast called for another 35 mm of rain Friday. In New Brunswick, roads are closed, and homes flooded as water levels on the Saint John River reach 5.6 metres in Saint John. West of Montreal, Quebec a Hydro-Quebec dam on the Rouge River may not be able to hold back flood waters, so homes have been evacuated.

In the meantime, Cheng insists summer is on its way, and residents in this part of the country should be patient.

"Summer is around the corner and we really just need to bear with it for a little bit more," he said.
