Man assaulted after buying item online

Windsor police have a warning for anybody meeting a stranger to buy something -- meet somewhere public.

The warning comes after a man was assaulted Thursday morning on Capitol Street between Remington Avenue and Charlotte Street.

The victim had arranged the meeting online to buy an item posted on social media for sale. They made the exchange, but later the man discovered the item was defective, so he returned to the home on Capitol Street.

That is when the victim said the seller hit him with a pole.

He called police and officers showed up, but the seller would not leave his house.

The home was blocked off for several hours before police received a warrant to go inside where they arrested the suspect.

During a search of the home, police found a prohibited weapon.

Michael Allard, 35, is charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The charges have not yet been proven in court.

The victim received treatment for a non-life threatening injury at the hospital.
