Windsor police officer hit by stolen vehicle

Windsor police are searching for two men after an officer was hit by a fleeing stolen vehicle.

Police said two people broke into an auto shop on Wyandotte Street near Pierre Avenue on Thursday at around midnight and then returned at around 4:45 a.m. Officers spotted two men running through the parking lot and jumping a fence into an alley and ran after them. That's when an officer was struck by a fleeing Cadillac, which had been stolen on April 8 from Division Road near Clarke Street. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The second suspect ran away.

"This break and enter turned extremely dangerous when the suspect made the decision to flee police and struck an officer with the stolen vehicle," said police in a news release Friday afternoon.

A white van parked in the alley loaded with stolen merchandise was recovered. The stolen Cadillac was found later that morning in the parking lot of a church on St. Marys Gate and Kildare Road.

The first suspect is described as a male wearing baggy pants, a sweat jacket, a balaclava concealing his face, a white baseball hat, and a black women's purse.

The second suspect is described as a male wearing dark baggy pants, a sweat jacket, a dark balaclava concealing his face, and a dark baseball hat.

Investigators want to speak with any witnesses who may have seen suspicious behaviour at the auto shop, may have witnessed the stolen Cadillac being abandoned, or have any information about the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS), or online at www.catchcrooks.com.
