Stiff penalty for speeding Lakeshore driver

A 21-year-old Lakeshore man is going to have to hitch a ride with friends or walk after the Ontario Provincial Police suspended his license and impounded his vehicle.

The OPP were conducting a speed enforcement initiative in Lakeshore last Friday when an officer clocked a vehicle speeding on Lakeshore Road 107 between Walls Road and County Road 42.

While a stunt driving ticket can be written up for any driver caught exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/h, police say this driver was going 160 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

The fine for stunt driving is $2,000 for a first offence but can go up to $10,000. Those convicted could also spend up to six months in jail and lose their license for two years.

In addition to the stunt driving charge, the man is also charged with careless driving and will appear in a Windsor court on May 13.
