UPDATE: Flood warning issued for Leamington & Kingsville

The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) has issued a flood warning.

The ERCA advises that flooding is occurring along parts of the shoreline in Leamington, Kingsville and Pelee Island. Conservation authority officials said flooding is happening in the Marentette Beach and Cotterie Park areas in Leamington, at Scratch Lane and Dix Alley between Cedar Creek and the Linden Beach area in Kingsville, and on roads on the east and south shore of Pelee Island because of strong winds.

The ERCA added Windsor, Tecumseh, and Lakeshore may also experience water from splashing waves and spray and there is the possibility for damage to shoreline structures.

"Due to the continuing northeast winds and elevated lake levels, the Municipality of Leamington should continue to monitor the flood control dykes in the Southeast Leamington area," the ERCA said in a Thursday afternoon news release.

The public is advised to avoid these areas and to avoid the shoreline because the waves overtopping breakwalls and shorelines can be extremely dangerous. Officials added that standing water can also present unseen hazards.

This flood warning is in effect until noon on Saturday.
