LaSalle okays work on Turkey Creek Bridge

Traffic on Front Road in LaSalle will likely be slowed by a major project starting next month.

The Town of LaSalle has accepted a bid by Amico Infrastructure to fix up Turkey Creek Bridge this spring.

The cost of the contract is over $2.2 million, but the town will split the cost with the County of Essex, and LaSalle's share will come out of its share of federal gas tax revenues.

The bid came in over budget. The town had set aside $1 million, while the county budgeted $975,000. However, the administration recommended going ahead with it because of the condition of the structure which was identified as a priority in LaSalle's biannual bridge needs study.

During the project, traffic on the bridge just north of Reaume Road will be down to two lanes, one lane each way. There will up to four short-term full closures of Front Road, but they will be scheduled during off-peak hours, most likely at night.

Construction is expected to continue through to mid-October.
