A Windsor recycler has been fined after a worker was hurt in 2017.
K-Scrap Resources Ltd., a steel recycling company at 110 Hill Ave. in Windsor, has been fined nearly $70,000 after pleading guilty on Friday.
The Ministry of Labour said on May 1, 2017, a worker employed by K-Scrap was working in an area known as the tube torching cell area where steel pipe tubes are cut to smaller lengths when a railcar hit the tubes and knocked the employee to the ground, causing the injury.
"The subsequent investigation by the Ministry of Labour established that K-Scrap did not take the reasonable precaution of erecting barrier(s) and/or similar device(s) and/or visible indicator(s) to ensure that a tube and/or other material were not located in the path of the railcar," the ministry said.
Ministry officials added that K-Scrap failed to take every precaution reasonable to protect the worker.
