An idea what development in South Cameron Woodlot will look like

A former Windsor man wants people to know what they will lose if residential development is allowed to go ahead in the city's South Cameron Woodlot.

Creative Director at Geopogo in Berkley California, Michael Hoppe created an augmented reality video to give residents a visual. He said many cities in California work to protect the last of their forests.

"The future generations of this city need to grow up in a community that is not devoid of nature, but one that embraces it," Hoppe wrote on Facebook. "Technology like this may help change the world, by showing us what we do not want to see."

Mayor Drew Dilkens recently announced an earlier decision blocking development had been reversed.

The announcement has been met with fear from nearby residents who believe development in the wetland area will mean more flooding in their basements, and Windsor-West MPP Lisa Gretzky has written a letter to Premier Doug Ford calling on him to protect the woodlot.

The South Cameron Woodlot is about 150 acres. Approximately 50 acres will be open to development.
