Police recover stolen SUV & more during Windsor arrest

A Windsor man has been charged after he was found sleeping behind the wheel of a stolen SUV.

Police said several items were reported stolen from a business on Howard Avenue near McDougall Street Tuesday morning, including a black 2012 GMC Terrain and some cash.

"Officers arrived and observed an insecure door and other signs that a break and enter had occurred," police said in a news release issued Wednesday afternoon. "No suspects were located inside the business."

A suspect was caught on video surveillance and was arrested Wednesday morning after a suspicious vehicle was spotted parked on Tecumseh Road near Marentette Avenue.

"Officers located a male sleeping in the driver's seat of the vehicle while the vehicle was left running," police said.

Police also seized several stolen items that were allegedly found in the vehicle, as well as marijuana and magic mushrooms that were allegedly found on the suspect.

Shawn Heywood, 45, of Windsor, is charged with break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of cannabis over 30 grams in a public place, and possession of magic mushrooms.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.
