'It's not OK to make comments like this' says Windsor restaurant owner

A Windsor restauranteur has gone public about reviews equating halal with terrorism.

Eddy Hammoud did not pay a lot of attention to the first email he received, but after negative reviews starting popping up on TripAdvisor, he decided to act.

The reviews and other social media messages started Monday night and they all said that because his restaurants, Tabouli by Eddy and Eddy's Bistro served halal meat, it supported terrorism.

Hammoud said the two have nothing to do with each other and halal is a traditional Islamic way to prepare food.

"The meat has been blessed and thanks has been given to the animal, the animal is killed by itself and not in front of other animals, and it's killed in the least harmful way," said Hammoud.

Hammoud told BlackburnNews.com he was taken aback by the negative reviews.

"Number one, it's not OK to make comments like this. We need to get together as a community and support one another," he added.

Instead of ignoring the reviews, Hammoud decided he needed to educate the public about what halal is, and what it is not.

"I've never had this issue before where someone has talked bad or criticized the fact that I've served halal food," Hammoud said.
