Windsor man charged with impaired driving, fleeing

A 21-year-old man has been charged after an Ontario Provincial Police officer spotted a vehicle weaving back and forth across the road.

The OPP said it happened in the Town of Tecumseh early Saturday morning.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., an OPP officer spotted a blue Jeep driving erratically as it travelled eastbound on Tecumseh Road East. The officer watched as it veered over the centre line into the westbound lanes before the driver jerked the car back into the eastbound side.

The officer tried to speak to the driver once he had pulled the Jeep over into a driveway on Lesperance Road, but the man ran off.

When the officer caught up to him, he noticed the suspect appeared impaired.

A Windsor man faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drug, operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol concentration of over 80 mg of alcohol in blood, and resisting a peace officer.

The driver will have a chance to respond to the charges in a Windsor court on March 22.
