Spitfires edge out Greyhounds 4-3

The Windsor Spitfires managed to squeeze past the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 4-3 in overtime in OHL action on Sunday.

The Greyhounds led the way with a goal in the first period at 6:42 by Keeghan Howdeshell.

The Spitfires' Luke Boka quickly responded back with a goal, tying things up.  It wasn't until the second period until the Spitfires' Cole Purboo scored a goal, putting them in the lead by one. A back and forth happened as Keeghan Howdeshell shot another goal in the second period at 9:01, which had Purboo coming right back for their third goal at 11:38 leaving the Spitfires in the lead.

The Spitfire's Zach Trott managed to score the third goal for the Spitfires in the third period, leaving the game at another tie at 3-3 and forcing the game into overtime.

Nathan Staios scored the game-winning goal for the Spitfires in overtime at 4:11.

Spitfires goaltender Colton Incze saved 32 of the 35 shots on net. Matthew Villalta and Ethan Taylor combined for 26 saves in goal for the Hounds.

The Spitfires are back at eighth place in the OHL Western Conference ranking with 58 points, two points ahead of the idle Erie Otters.

The Spitfires will face off against the Flint Firebirds on March 14th at 7 p.m. at the WFCU Centre, in the regular-season home finale.
