Sales of two Windsor-built minivans are hurting

Sales of the Windsor-built Chrysler Pacifica minivan continue to slide.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has released February numbers and Pacifica sales in the U.S. last month were down 32 per cent compared to February of last year. The hit means 3,600 fewer minivans were sold in America last month when FCA compared the two Februaries.

Overall sales of the Pacifica have dipped 24 per cent south of the border in the first two months of 2019 compared to the same period in 2018. That means 4,600 fewer minivans were sold stateside in January and February.

Canadian sales of the Pacifica are down 61 per cent with just 235 minivans sold last month. Overall sales are down 55 per cent so far this year.

The Windsor-made Dodge Grand Caravan is not doing much better in the U.S. lately.

February sales decreased 24 per cent this February compared to the same period last year. That's almost 4,000 fewer Caravans sold.

Year to date sales are also down 27 per cent for the first two months of the year. That's 7,200 fewer minivans sold so far this year compared to last year.

Canadian sales of the Grand Caravan are up 12 per cent with nearly 2,900 vehicles sold in February but overall sales are down 20 per cent so far this year.

The Windsor Assembly Plant produces about 1,426 vehicles per day, according to Wikipedia.
