LaSalle joining Windsor in search for counterfeit suspect

LaSalle police have joined their Windsor counterparts in the search for a man suspected of passing funny money.

Authorities across Essex County put out a warning to merchants this week after fake Canadian currency was discovered in Leamington. Counterfeit U.S. money, in denominations of $50 and $100, was also used in some Windsor businesses.

A photo had been released of a suspect, but now LaSalle police say a man with a similar description has been seen passing fake currency in at least one business at Windsor Crossing outlet mall.

A screengrab taken from a surveillance camera at Windsor Crossing has been released and is shown above. He is described as middle-Eastern, in his late 20s or early 30s, standing between 5' 7" and 5' 10" with a medium build and a beard. In the first instance he was wearing all black, but in the photo above, he is seen in a dark blue tracksuit and a New York Yankees baseball cap.

If you have seen this man or if you know who he is, call LaSalle police at (519) 969-5210 or Windsor police at (519) 255-6700. Anonymous tips can be phoned into CrimeStoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477) or submitted online.
