Connections Early Years scores grant to build accessible community kitchen

A capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation will allow the Connections Early Years Family Centre to create a fully functional, accessible community kitchen.

The centre expects to hold 11 programs or events for 100 families per month in the new kitchen, and will work with other community programs to share the space.

"Our kitchen is a hub of activity," said Executive Director, Barb Brown. "These renovations will greatly enhance the programming we offer, particularly in the EarlyOn Centre."

The not-for-profit centre offers free services and programs for families with children up to the age of six-years-old.

The $117,000 grant will help the program modernize old, unsafe equipment and cabinetry, and add an eating area with accessible seating.

The kitchen renovations are part of a larger campaign called "Building Up!", which will renovate the building at 795 Giles Blvd. E over the next five years.
